Thomas Wesley
Hobson
Feb 7, 1964 — Jul 25, 2026
Thomas Wesley Hobson, 62, of Warrensburg, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones, on July 25, 2026.
Tom was born on February 7, 1964, in Chula Vista, California, to Colleen Ann Hobson and Thomas Lee Hobson. He grew up in San Diego and Tehachapi, California, where he joined the high school football team and excelled as the starting defensive tackle for the perennial powerhouse Tehachapi Warriors. His extraordinary athletic talent earned him a full football scholarship to Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri, where he met the love of his life, Debbie.
On May 31, 1986, Tom married Debbie Akeson in her hometown of Chappell, Nebraska. Together they shared 40 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, faith, family, and unwavering devotion to one another. Tom cherished every day he spent with Debbie, and their enduring love was an inspiration to all who knew them. They were blessed with one son, Wesley Thomas Hobson, who was the pride and joy of his life.
Tom believed deeply in the value of education and the importance of understanding the world around him. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences in 1990 and completed his teacher certification in 1991. A lifelong learner, he continually enriched his knowledge through his love of history, biblical studies, and literature. Over the years, Tom welcomed many Bible study groups into his home, sharing his faith, encouraging fellow believers, and inspiring meaningful conversations about God's Word.
Tom dedicated his career to educating and mentoring young people. He taught high school social studies and coached football in the Morgan County R-II School District in Versailles, Missouri. Later, he taught middle school social studies in the Knob Noster School District, where he also coached football and tennis. Whether in the classroom, on the athletic field, or serving as a mentor, Tom challenged those around him to work hard, build character, and believe in themselves.
Tom found joy in many of life's simple pleasures. He was a devoted fan of USC Trojans football and the Kansas City Chiefs and loved following the traditions and excitement of the games. Music was another lifelong passion. Gifted with a beautiful singing voice, he appreciated music of every genre. Tom was also an avid gamer who viewed the friendships he formed online as opportunities to encourage others, offer emotional support, and build lasting relationships. Tom also had a special bond with the family's dogs, whose affection he easily earned through his gentle spirit, generous heart, and loving nature.
More than anything, Tom will be remembered for his caring heart, quiet strength, wisdom, unwavering faith, and steadfast devotion to the people he loved. He was a loving husband, proud father, cherished son, devoted brother, trusted teacher, respected coach, and loyal friend. His kindness, compassion, sense of humor, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Debbie Hobson; his son, Wesley Thomas Hobson; his father, Thomas Lee Hobson; his sister, Laura Hobson; and many extended family members, former students, athletes, colleagues, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Colleen Hobson Zazvorka, and his grandmothers, Bessie Stone and Audrey Hobson.
Tom's legacy is one of love, faith, perseverance, compassion, and service to others. Through his family, his students, his athletes, and the countless lives he touched, his influence will continue for generations. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m., at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg, Missouri.
