Mary Elizabeth
(Rush) Mccoy
Aug 9, 1931 — Dec 7, 2025
Mary Elizabeth (Rush) McCoy spent the last ninety-four years serving her Savior and family, spreading the love of Christ, and loving everyone that the Lord placed in her path. On the morning of Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Raintree Village in Lee's Summit, MO, Mary was welcomed into heaven and is now rejoicing at Jesus' side, reunited with her husband of more than 62 years, A.J. Lawrence McCoy.
Mary spent her life caring for those around her. First, by being a close companion and example to her brothers Jerry and Jack, as well as, sister Virginia, not only as they grew up but throughout their lifetimes.
Mary and A.J. married in Eureka Springs, AR on September 15, 1946. As a loving wife, they built a marriage on compassion, understanding, and teamwork. A shared loving smile or eyes alight with warmth and humor were common sights when they were in each other's presence. Mary was also a wonderful mother to daughters Peggy Lee and Katherine Ann. Mary was a wise mother, knowing how to give each of her girls just what they needed to feel loved, protected, and inspired to be at their best.
As a grandma to Vanessa Nicole, Aaron James, Matthew Christian, Sarah Beth, and Laura Anne, Mary was a constant example and source of support. Mary was always ready with a snack, a Bandaid, a word of encouragement, or a needle and thread to sew an eye back on a beloved toy bunny. Her grandchildren looked forward visiting her because she would always have Jello with fruit cocktail and her famous chocolate cake, lovingly referred to as "Grandma Cake" for dessert. As the grandkids grew up, Mary also welcomed Benjamin Floyd, Emily Brown, Erin Giffin, Josh Keller, and Jordan Hensley to the family and celebrated and supported each of them. Mary furthermore delighted in watching her great grandchildren grow, cheering on and championing Connor McCoy, Caden Elijah, Easton Lawrence, Ezekiel Matthew, Grace Elizabeth, Eden Marie, Abigail Anne and Titus Kyle. Mary McCoy's legacy is one of immeasurable impact.
It was these above actions, as well as others, that spoke loudly to Mary's love of Jesus and to her love for the people that the Lord placed in her path. Mary spent her life active at her local church, volunteering and donating her time and money to serving others and spreading the good news of the gospel. While her daughters were still at home, she was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God in Lee's Summit. In her later years, she became a member of the First Baptist Church in Warrensburg. Whether friend, family, or stranger, Mary sought to love others as Jesus loved her.
As an avid gardener, Mary could often be found meticulously tending to her flowers or walking the rows of the large vegetable garden that she and A.J. had planted. In the evenings, Mary could often be found sitting with a good book or solving mysteries with Jessica Fletcher, Ben Matlock, or any number of Primetime C.S.I. teams, a bowl of popcorn and a glass of Dr. Pepper at her side. A jigsaw puzzle or sudoku book was always nearby as well. Sometimes a game of dominoes after dinner was included in the evening. A sly smile would appear on Mary's face as she tapped her last domino on the kitchen table, alerting the other players to her imminent victory.
Mary McCoy was born Mary Elizabeth Rush on August 9, 1931 in Summers, AR to Cecil Rush and Anna Mae (Emerson) Rush. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. McCoy; her parents; two brothers, Jack and Jerry; sister, Virginia; and infant daughter, Teresa Ann.
Mary is survived by her older daughter, Peggy Lee, and her husband, Richard Jones, of Clinton; their daughter, Vanessa, and her husband Benjamin Floyd, of Henderson, NV, along with their sons, Connor and Caden.
She also leaves her youngest daughter, Katherine Ann, and her husband, Randy Nash, of Lee's Summit; their son, Aaron and his wife, Emily, of Westminster, CO, along with their son, Easton; their son, Matthew and his wife, Erin, of Waterville, ME; their daughter, Sarah, and her husband, Josh Keller, of Lee's Summit, along with their children, Ezekiel, Grace, and Eden; their daughter, Laura, and her husband, Jordan Hensley, of Lee's Summit, along with their children, Abigail and Titus. She also leaves two special friends, Cynthia and Tricia of Warrensburg.
A family service will be held on Friday, December 12, at 10:30am at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with interment at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
