Jane
Murphy
May 12, 1937 — Aug 16, 2018
Alice "Jane" Murphy, 81 of Oak Grove, Missouri; formerly of Warrensburg passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018 at her home.
Jane was born May 12, 1937 at the home of her maternal grandparents, Earl and Effie Boosinger, north of Montserrat, in the same bed that her mother was born in 22 years earlier. Jane was the oldest child of Sidney Ralph and Effie Earlene (Boosinger) Tipton. As a youngster, she attended Valley View School, a one room school house. She graduated from College High School in Warrensburg and went on to take several classes at Central Missouri State University, while working full time.
Over the years, Jane worked doing land-title research, in the days of the old abstracts, as an optometric assistant, as a child care provider and later, as a Unit Secretary at Western Missouri Medical Center, where she retired following 25 years of service. After she retired , Jane sold her home of 35 plus years and moved into a senior citizens apartment unit in Oak Grove. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, word-search puzzles and embroidering. Her favorite times were spent surrounded by her children and grandchildren; taking day-long road trips and looking at trees.
Jane married Auther D. "Art" Murphy on December 16, 1961 in Warrensburg. Of that union, three children were born. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Art on May 11, 1977. Also preceding her on that journey were her two brothers: Ralph Earl in 1957 and Richard Lee in 1994; her dad in 1988; her mom in 1996 and her granddaughter, Abigail Lee Berry in 1994.
Survivors include her three children: Dean (Diane) Murphy of Warrensburg; Kim (Darren) Berry of Oak Grove and Jim Murphy of Columbus, OH; eight grandchildren and 6 great granddaughters: Joshua (Katie) Murphy – U. S. Navy-Gulfport, MS and daughter, Kennedy; Amanda (Will) Schmitz of Commercial Point, OH and daughters, Hallee, Lexie and Chelsea; Kaylee (Jamie) Nabors – U. S. Air Force - Prattville, AL and daughters, Sidney and Elliot; Denai Murphy of Warrensburg; Max Berry of Oak Grove; Lane Murphy of Park Rapids, MN; Tyler Murphy of Columbus, OH; and Emily Berry of Oak Grove; and special nieces and nephews: Jill, Debbie and Ron. Over the years, there were many other children moving through her home, and through her heart, that called her "Grandma" or "Mama Jane."
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 22nd at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with Erich Kurz, Chaplain of Crossroads Hospice officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg.
