Obituary

James Marcus "Toby" Singleton, 87 of Leeton, Missouri passed away Tuesday December 16th, 2025 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri.

Jim was born August 28, 1938 in Shelby, North Carolina the son of Erwin Ernest Singleton and Cora "Ann" (Austell) Singleton. He was raised in Shelby, North Carolina. Due to his father's 33 year military career, he lived with his family at many military bases where his father was stationed. He attended all 4 years and graduated from Kaiserslautern American High School, a boarding school in Germany, while his father and the family where stationed at a military base in Etainne, France. Next, he attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO where he studied to be an auto mechanic. He had some college but no degree. Jim was drafted into the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War but was sent to Fort Huachuca, Arizona for training. Jim was united in marriage to Sharon Louise Stutler on August 16, 1970 in Warrensburg and the couple made their home in Warrensburg. For the past 15 years, they have lived near Leeton, Missouri. He was a self-employed construction contractor for the majority of his adult life, but really he just liked to have coffee and gossip with the guys down at the coffee shops. Jim's hobbies included hunting, fishing, watching local ball games, and collecting antiques. He was especially fond of his favorite hog oiler. He loved going to auctions and went to every sale within the area. He made the road trip back to his hometown of Shelby, North Carolina so many times, he knew it by heart. He always made sure to stop at his favorite store along the way, Smoky Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville, TN. Making sure to stop in twice, going out AND coming back. His longest friendship is with Coleman Doggett and is worth noting, as they were born just 3 days apart and their families lived on the same street. Jim also liked to ride around the farm on the gator just for fun. He enjoyed keeping and caring for the family's 3 horses Misty, Joey, and Tessi. He and his wife are such regulars at their favorite restaurant, when you look up the Rock Island Cafe, their jeep is parked out front.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon; son, Adam Singleton (Heather) of Bucksaw, MO; daughter, Tiffany Singleton of Warrensburg, MO and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, from in and around his hometown of Shelby, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by a baby sister.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 2nd at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg.
