Obituary

Harold "Hap" George Lloyd Chandler passed away March 19, 2021, in Warrensburg, Missouri.  He was born on January 6, 1932, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada the son of Walter George David Chandler and Alys Lenor (Martin) Chandler.

On June 27, 1948, Hap immigrated to the United States from Canada and became a US Citizen in 1951.

Hap served in the United States Air Force as an Electrical Repairman from March 14, 1950 to March 13, 1954.  He completed his 18 week Service Training at F. E. Warren AFB Wyoming and he spent most of his active duty time in Arizona.

After his military service Hap returned to Michigan and worked for Michigan Bell as an electrician.

He married Winifred Tina VerHage in 1957 and she preceded him in death on August 13, 1984.

Hap met Ann Elizabeth (Woodward) Ross, and they married on February 13, 1986, in Richland, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  She is the daughter of Gilbert Alanson Woodward and Selina Edith (MacDonald) Woodward.

After their retirement, Hap and Ann found that they enjoyed Tucson, Arizona, where they spent their winters in the Voyager Resort for almost 25 years.  They greatly enjoyed traveling the world, attending dinner theaters and participating in resort activities where they made many friends.  For several years Hap and Ann both volunteered at the Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona.  He worked as a guide, ranger and on occasion helped with maintenance within the park.

Hap was always working or tinkering on something.  As a result, he came up with several items that he ended up manufacturing and selling to the phone company.  He also designed planters for the bridges in Plainwell, Michigan, a program that the city took over after a few years.  He also engineered, designed and built the first all wood foundation under an existing house in the nation.

Hap greatly enjoyed wood carving, making wooden puzzles, odd long neck geese, signs, characters, and unique one of a kind objects and was a carving instructor at the Voyager.

He and his wife enjoyed building stained glass panels for the windows in their home, churches, and other places.  Many of these pieces are now with their children, grandchildren and friends.

In 2015 Hap and Ann moved to Missouri and lived in Sedalia before moving to Warrensburg where they lived until Hap passed.

He is survived by his wife Ann Chandler, eight children -  Karen (Chandler) Soliday of Michigan, Scott and Deb Chandler of Kentucky, Todd and Mary Chandler of New York, Sue (Chandler) and Maury Willows of North Dakota, Gale and Barbara Ross of Missouri, Lisa Ross of Arizona, Deborah (Ross) and Bill Longacre of Michigan, and Robert and Lisa Ross of Wisconsin;
