Obituary

Curtis Mitchell Lawson, of Warrensburg, Missouri passed away on September 29, 2023 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg at the age of eighty-two. He was born in Lexington, Oklahoma on May 31, 1941 to Mitchell and Hettie Eunice Robinson (Lawson). He lived most of his life in that area until graduating from Lexington High School and meeting the love of his life. On August 12, 1960 Mary Brimberry became Mrs. Curtis Lawson and they began their lives together with no idea that twenty- six of those years would be spent traveling the world as a member of the U.S. Air Force, with Curtis retiring as a Captain. Years passed and the untimely death of Mary in 2013 was devastating in so many ways, but as sometimes happens in life a second chance for happiness, and Curtis married his second soulmate by the name of Carla Sapp (Lawson). Curtis and Carla were married on October 16, 2016 and made their home together in Warrensburg enjoying every second together knowing it to be precious.

Curtis is survived by his two sons Todd (Sarah) Colorado; Kevin (Julie) Oklahoma; and stepson, Michael Parks (Jennifer) Illinois as well as nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Also, a  brother Paul (Ann) Texas. He was preceded in death by Mary, his parents, Matthew his grandson,  an infant brother,  two sisters, Katherine, and Darlene.
Curtis was a devoted, loving father, role model and husband. We will all miss him dearly, knowing he will be keeping watch over us, doing his best to shepherd us through our lives. He did not see himself as a leader and would even tell you that he was not, but if that is true then how is it possible that we all saw him as our hero.

There will be a private graveside service at a later date with interment in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Higginsville with Full Military Honors provided by Whiteman Air Force Base Honor Guard.

The family wishes to thank the many staff , volunteers, and residents of the Missouri Veterans Home for their loving care, friendship, and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Veterans Assistance League. For more information, please see their website at http://valwbgorg/give-to-val/.
