Carl L. Matthews, 84 of Warrensburg, Missouri passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021 at KU Medical Center.

Carl was born June 1, 1937 to Frank and Esta Mae (McFerrin) Matthews.  He grew up and attended Schools in rural Johnson County near Warrensburg.  He graduated from Warrensburg High School in 1956.  Shortly after graduation, Carl enlisted in the Navy, and traveled the world as a career, for 24 years.  In 1980, he retired as Master Chief Petty Officer Machinery Repair.

Upon returning to Warrensburg, he received a degree from CMSU.  Carl worked as head foreman for Missouri Table and Chair.  Upon retiring, he used his artistic talent and painted many scenic portraits.  He pursued his love of gardening, selling his bounty at Markets.  Carl loved day trips, new wineries, dirt track races and of course, the Chiefs.  He was a staunch Democrat who couldn't be convinced otherwise.

Carl married Cydney A. Roach in 1962.  She passed away in 2003.  He leaves a son, Doug Matthews and granddaughter, Heather.  He married Deborah (Ayers) Bodenhamer in 2008.  He leaves his stepchildren: Jason Bodenhamer and Valerie Wood (Brett) and grandchildren, Seth, Ace and Allison.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10 ^th at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery with full Military Graveside Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the Naval Fleet Reserve; local VFW, Post #2513 or American Legion, Post #131 in care of the funeral home.  The Naval Fleet Reserve was very special to Carl.
