Benny H.
Meyer
Apr 20, 1940 — Feb 23, 2026
Born on April 20, 1940, to the late John Meyer and Hilda Baur Meyer Harlin in Hermann, Missouri, he died peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Country Club Rehab and Healthcare Center in Warrensburg, Missouri.
His motto: "If you're going to do something, do it right." A heavy equipment mechanic by trade, he was a 66‑year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 101—a badge of honor for him. Gifted with a rare mechanical mind, he could repair anything; if a part didn't exist, he would fabricate it or devise an inventive workaround that often left the result better than new. Meticulous to the core, he had little patience for foolishness or pretense.
He loved hunting and fishing—pastimes he learned with, and shared with, his brother Bill—and he passed that love on to his son, John. He took great pride in his BBQ'd ribs, employing (and constantly trying to improve on) a recipe and technique tweaked and perfected over the past 45 years. Later in life, he found joy in gardening and woodworking, creating sturdy, beautiful pieces built to last. He never met a dog he didn't instantly love—or want to bring home (even if it already belonged to someone else).
He was married three times: first to Alice Meyer (they divorced in 1980; she passed away on June 14, 2004), then to Lois Cora Lee Meyer (who preceded him in death on December 9, 2009), and later to his wife, Nancy Meyer, who survives him. The last of four children, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Howell and Gladys Hamby, and his brother, Bill Meyer.
He is survived by Nancy; his son, John Meyer; his granddaughter, Amanda Meyer; his half-brother, Bobby Dollard; and many stepchildren and step‑grandchildren, too numerous to name.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Floral Hills East Cemetery in Lee's Summit, Missouri with Rev. Tim Whitmore officiating.
Arrangements entrusted to Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg.
