Anna Louise
Luellen
Jun 8, 1940 — Jul 31, 2024
Anna Louise Luellen, 84 of Warrensburg, Missouri passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg surrounded by her loving family.
Anna was born June 8, 1940 in Kansas City, Missouri, daughter of Frederick C. and Elfriede (Volker) Zeh. Growing up in Centerview, she graduated from Warrensburg High School in 1958. As a junior she began her nursing career as a Nurse's Aide at Warrensburg Medical Center. Upon graduation she received an award from Warrensburg Hospital Auxiliary for nurses training at Research Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City. While in nursing school she was united in marriage to John Robert Luellen on February 5, 1960 at First Baptist Church in Warrensburg. In 1961 she graduated nursing school and started working at Johnson County Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse. During her career at what is now Western Missouri Medical Center she worked as an RN, Supervisor of Nursing, branching out into Risk Management, Quality Assessment, and Infection Control. After 32 years of caring for the community she and John moved to the Orlando area in 1990 where she continued in administrative positions at several local hospitals. Upon John's retirement from AT&T in 1995, they moved back to Warrensburg. Wanting to stay involved in nursing, she began teaching in the LPN Program at Warrensburg Area Vocational Technical School until retiring in 2001. Driven by her desire to minister and serve she became a founding member of the New Beginnings Womens Center serving on the Board of Directors. It was then that she expanded her knowledge by taking classes to be certified to perform ultrasounds at the center. In 2011 she received recognition from the state of Missouri commemorating 50 years of service as a Registered Nurse.
While living in Warrensburg she was an active member of First Baptist Church where she served as a leader for GA's, Acteens, Women on Missions, and the Food Center. Her heartfelt concern for others led her to serve in 2 medical missionary trips, taking her to Jamaica and Queens, New York. Loving nature and the beauty of flowers she was an avid gardener, achieving Master Gardener status. This love led to her involvement in 2 local clubs, Cheerful Tillers and Pioneer Garden Club, winning numerous awards in statewide competitions in horticulture and floral design. She was also a certified judge for the State Federated Garden Club, traveling to different flower shows across the state.
Anna was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, traveling thousands of miles to watch her grandchildren participate in numerous activities.
It was her compassion for people that touched the lives of everyone she met. She is survived by her daughters: Deborah Couch (Chaylon) of LaTour, Missouri; Lisa Grafmiller (Jim) of Senoia, Georgia; grandchildren: Matthew Couch (Kelly) of Troy, Missouri; Timothy Couch (Ashley) of Seattle, Washington; David Grafmiller of Senoia, Georgia; Andrew Couch (Teresa) of Warrensburg, Missouri; John Grafmiller (Jordan) of Senoia, Georgia; Brittany Couch of Lawrence, Kansas; Joshua Grafmiller of Senoia, Georgia; great grandson: Lucas Couch; sister: Betty Gudde (Vernon); and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents: Frederick C. and Elfriede (Volker) Zeh; husband: John Robert Luellen; daughter: Melinda Luellen; sister: Ruth Zeh Dobie; brother: Carl Zeh; and great granddaughter: Gayle Mackenzie Couch.
